Halloween Sermon

I heard, yet, another sermon today on the evils of Halloween. Once again, it portrayed anyone who celebrates the holiday as a lover of darkness and evil. It insinuated that only those who reject the holiday are true followers of Christ. I am sure he didn't mean it this way, but the preacher, tooted his own horn about his spirituality and willingness to always stand for what is right. There is nothing wrong with standing for what you believe, but in doing so, one should bring glory to Christ, not to self. The sermon made me kind of sad, because I used to be just like that. I am learning, to simply, follow what the Bible says and not add to it, my own interpretation as the standard. Celebrating Halloween is a personal choice. How one goes about that celebration is where evil comes in, and if you are not performing human sacrifice, worshiping satan, committing crime, etc. then all other falls under personal worldview.

Surprising to still hear this kind of sermon in this day and age.

Halloween/Samhain is a pagan holiday. This of course does not mean that a person has to be evil and nasty to enjoy it. Its more the time when I reflect on those gone on before me; a time to cherish the summer now gone and a time to love the good in all of us, acknowledging that I come from Mother Earth and will return to Her some day.
