How can there be a god if bad things happen in the world?

That use to be one of my arguments against the belief in god. How could he exist and allow such evil to take place? Why doesn't he stop it?
Then one day, it took a lot of self reflecting and exploring that topic to realize its not gods choice to have evil.
Its human choice.
We all as people have the choice to do what we will with our life. We can do good and help others. Or we can make poor choices that hurt or kill others.
Its in our activities and our hearts that matters. We can also realize that god can do things to help us along in our personal journey.
We just can't expect him to live our life. He gave us all a life and its ours to decide what we do with this blessing.
What blessings have helped you a long? It seems like whenever I'm feeling really down and wondering why so much seems to be going wrong a little something good happens when least expected.
Like finding an awesome toy play yard for free ( put to the curb)/or a kids play house.. Etc.

Having a warm place to be inside and live on a freezing day makes me feel very blessed and grateful.

I agree, we make our own choices in life. But God is so loving and forgives us when we truly repent.

Love asks no questions of itself before it loves, and neither does God ask questions of us before we act.
Our action is our own, brought about by our own thoughts co-opted by us, from our free will choices.
God's thoughts then are not our thoughts until we see God for who he is, love him, and allow his thoughts to influence us in our thinking, so that then we will begin to follow God's thoughts, rather than just our own.

@Daelii Thank-you too. This is indeed an interesting topic to read other's opinions about.
Yes, a quick magical fix, would not fix anything, as you said in another comment reply here.
We need to start to own our own answers from our growing in love and conscious awareness so that when we fix these problems, we are fixing them from our own free-will, and not just having the fixes forced upon us by God.

Yes, I know! A dear friend of mine lost quite a few family members in a tragic car accident. It was hard and even a few years later, its not easy to think about it.
Why did God allow that to happen?
Then it was a tv show, Highway to Heaven, that helped make some sense of it. It wasn't God's choice to make it happen. God didn't. It was that idiot driver who was to busy playing on their cell phone that ran a red light and plowed into a car killing many.
Without free will, there is no sense in anyone experiencing true love for God, God doesn't need mindless servants to be created. But loving for the sake of loving is rewarding in experiencing and giving.
Its peoples choices in what happens in the world. its people's choices that makes the right and the wrong. the good and the bad!
