One of a few albums that the band 'changed' their name on.
I'm not sure why, exactly, they dropped 'Railroad' from their name, but for 4 albums, they were billed simply as 'Grand Funk' instead of 'Grand Funk Railroad'.
Marketing strategy? Easier to say? Who knows...
(It could also have been from a lawsuit they were entangled with against their former manager who claimed 'ownership' of the name).
Regardless, GFR was still the same powerhouse band they had always been.
Between 1969-1974, every album they released (11 total) achieved 'Gold' status, with 6 of them reaching Platinum, and 10 of them placing in the Top 20.
While it may have been a bit presumptuous of the band, the initial run of the pressing of this album (their 7th studio release) was pressed on dark yellow vinyl to symbolize a 'Gold' record, which in fact it went 'Gold' a month after its release and eventually became certified Platinum.
Of course, there is another example of the cowbell being prominent in the opening song here...which I know @FourWalls won't use in her series...

I must've picked a bad time to be in love with cowbell.....
No, it's not on the list. Got much bigger favorites on the list.

@JolietJake -- "today's Morning Coughee Momentâ„¢ is another cowbell favorite Four Walls isn't using because she likes weird music."
