I'm very willing to take suggestions, and @JudyEv gave me the idea of a countdown of my favorite Australian bands. I am at #7: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds formed in Melbourne in 1983, after the breakup of The Birthday Party (which was one of the last bands cut as I compiled this list.) Cave, who is in the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame, has, with the Bad Seeds, released 16 studio albums and 31 singles. And if you want to talk about great live acts, the Bad Seeds qualify for that discussion. I've seen them, and I can vouch that they put on a great set. I've linked to a video of the band doing the song "Oh Children" live. It's an absolutely beautiful song. . Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Wow, that has some Broadway or Vegas type feel to it. The live performances.

The beginning reminds me a little of Pink Floyd. No idea why, but it does.

Yeah, I know. I had to flip a coin. Probably should have ranked him higher, because he's brilliant.

I really like Nick Cave - when I think Australian bands I have to think of Men At Work's Down Under

Never heard them before. Liked how they worked with a children's choir on this.

Great choice. I've heard of Nick Cave (didn't know he was Australian) but not his band. I'm glad you're not close enough to throw rotten tomatoes at me for being so ignorant of Aussie groups!

They are mainly popular with the alternative music crowd. If you weren't listening to college radio, you might not have heard of them.

It seems like the Aussie greats are all from the 80s and you haven't gotten to the bands I think you are going to pick.
