Favorite Australian Bands #5 - Dead Can Dance

When @JudyEv suggested a music series about Australian bands, I jumped in, head first. We are at #5: Dead Can Dance.
Led by multi-instrumentalist Brendan Perry and vocalist/instrumentalist Lisa Gerrard (both the band's only constant members,) Dead Can Dance formed in Melbourne in 1981, and despite a couple of lengthy hiatuses, still reunite for new albums and tours.
The group is often lumped in with the goth crowd, although the duo rejects that classification. They are often compared to The Cocteau Twins, and check this out: Dead Can Dance is indie label 4AD's best selling group.
Gerrard in particular does filmwork: She composed and performed the soundtrack for the movie "Whale Rider," among others.
I've linked to "Enigma of the Absolute, a song that is one reason the group is thought of as a goth group.

I kind of hate that when people decide what class of music. I like when a band says what style they are , but know some bands are just as bad as fans and talk smack. To me it is simple, you either like it or you do not.. This has a cool build up.

I don't mind the classifications, but some bands are very hard to fit into any one classification.
