Erk. It is real and I am a little concerned

These days you kind of expect coal and wood fires in cafes and pubs to be imitation. I am sitting by one. However, I have just found out it is real because a waiter just used a blow torch on it.... Is that safe?

I would not use a blow torch to start a fire, but I do not think it's dangerous.

@JolietJake I have seen people lighting logs in a fireplace using a blowtorch and they made a mess.
