My son-in-law started photography as a hobby when he in high school. But he figured out a way to turn his hobby into income by becoming a wedding photographer. He had 2 lovely websites and his business was doing quite well. I wanted his advice on building websites but was disappointed when he responded that he had paid to have his sites built by professionals. He couldn't give me any pointers on Do-It-Yourself (DIY) website builder applications. Have you ever built your own website for your business? * Yes I have built my own website. Anybody can build their own website. A website is similar to having a advertisement/listing in a phone directory. People don't consult phone directories any more, they Google the business they are looking for. Many of the website builder apps are free to use and you can upgrade to a paid package to access additional features. Why pay a professional for a task when you can do it yourself? * No I have not built my own website. It's better to hire a professional website builder. As of October 30, 2017, the average annual salary for Web Designer was $73,000 a year. Many web designers are freelancers who can be hired to do projects and their charges are reasonable. They will produce a quality product which will make a good impression on those who visit your website. Site visitors will likely be very happy to do business with you. It's your business, your chance to make a good impression online. It's worth it to pay a professional website builder.

I had help in making a website but mine did not get anywhere. Instead if I want to show what I am selling or give information I use my blog instead.

I would think that if someone wanted to make their own website it would be good to have professional help. YouTube does offer a video building a website for dummies that would be me but I don't know what I would sell.

I wanted my own website so badly I got two community college degrees in web design and development in order to build it. So yes, I have built my own website, and I regret nothing. All of the website builders and frameworks are unnecessarily limiting and frequently give unsatisfying results. If you want to have something, there is no halfway. It is best to embrace a learning curve for what you want and learn everything you need as opposed to accepting mediocrity.
