there was a murder

The murder occurred on The Orient Express, and the great detective Hercule Poirot solved the crime, pointed his stodgy little finger and then let the murderer/s go. And thus, this little piggy realised just why it is she doesn't read Agatha Christie novels. Having never seen any adaptation of the book - nor indeed, having ever read it - I went to see the big screen 2017 film with enthusiasm and gusto. And I enjoyed it! The film was quirky, fun and interesting. The train was beautiful. The cast was impressive. The scenery was amazing. Now, I don't know how closely the film follows the book, but I can only assume that the outcome is the same. Therefore I'm only going to ruin your viewing pleasure if you haven't read or seen it. If you don't want to be spoilt, feel free to stop reading now. So, it transpires that all the other passengers are connected in some way, with Johnny Depp's gangster character being the only odd egg. He's the one who gets murdered, but you know that. Anyway, the matriarch of the family {an actress who suffered the loss of a granddaughter, daughter and son-in-law} wants revenge and she pulls together a bunch of people to help her get it, including such people as the nanny, the chauffeur and the Godmother. Each of them have taken a turn to stab the bloke, so we don't know whose stab caused the death. Once the wily goat Poirot has worked this out, he then let's them all go. He let's them go! They were all involved in a violent, well thought out and pre-meditated murder. This wasn't a case of someone bumping into him in the street and killing him in a fit of blind fury. This was meticulously planned, right down to the little details. So it wasn't the film I didn't enjoy. It was Agatha Christie's stupid ending. Apparently the next film with Kenneth Branagh playing Poirot will be Murder on the Nile. I didn't even realise it was Kenneth Branagh. I'm not sure if that makes me stupid, or it's the start of some condition! *sigh*

I have seen several versions of all the Agatha Christie movies. I (re) watched Murder on the Nile last week, the one with Peter Ustinov. I have seen it so many times I can anticipate the dialogs.

They're not really my cup of tea. I just can't get my head around how the likes of Poirot, Miss Marple, and even Jessica Fletcher, are always around when a murder is committed. I'm quite sure that the time will come when breaking news informs us that they were the guilty ones the whole time. :)

I am pleased to know they re-do these Agatha Christie's movies again. I read lots of her books, but things got repetitive after a while.

I suppose knowing that the crime will always be solved can get a little irksome!!

@Poppylicious I have to tell you, I watched some TV series based on Stephen King's horrors, Twilights or something similar, and I simply hated them. Why? Because there was no ending to any! I was fuming. After watching two like that, I got so mad that I haven't watched another Stephen King's movies/series again. Nor reading more of his books!

Oi would say that I would watch the original, but if the outcome is the same I'm still going to be terribly disappointed!

@poppylicious I can't really take Kenneth Branagh seriously as Hercule Poirot because I used to visit his granny in a nursing home, but anything done on a train must be good.

I want to see that movie. I will be reading the book before seeing it. I have seen And there were None and 10 Little Indians. I think I have read And there were None.
