Diary Thursday 16th November 2017 A standard job club job searching afternoon, with no positive results but a nice chance to be with other member of the community. Despite having a job starting on Tuesday next week I am still expected to job search right up to the last minute. The evening involved a film making society meeting, where we watched several short film made by society members, ranging from documentaries about visits to Niagara Falls and the Swiss Matterhorn mountain to short fictional movies including a stark wartime horror story, a modern retelling of the Good Samaritan, done in Lego, and a comedy about a park in Bramhall Stockport becoming a British Jurassic Park, with some great special effects. The centre where the film group meet is near a pub, the Plungington Hotel, in Preston, which I decided to check out on my way in, and it is a very good pub. Spacious, friendly and with a great selection of real ales to pick from. It was also mercifully free of sports-screen giant TV’s of the kind that ruin many otherwise tremendous bars. I got a lift home after the meeting which was great. Diary Friday 17th November 2017 Unexpectedly I received my first payment from the post office four days before I start work there, as they had to pay me for attending their pre-work health and safety class last week. I expected this two hours to be paid for in my first wage in December but they have paid it in advance. Whoo! I had to phone my welfare officers and then separately call the council tax people to report the work and this payment, which meant spending nearly an hour on hold on the phone. In the afternoon, I made my last visit of the year to the community centre, as the job will eat into the time for such activity until Xmas now. The centre showed a movie, Good Will Hunting, which was great. I’ve not seen it before. I’ll review it in a forthcoming post. Arthur Chappell

Good Will Hunting is a great movie from two decades ago. It landed a couple of film awards too. So glad things are looking up for you.

Curious what happens if during the job search, since you already have a job if someone offers you another job? Good Will Hunting is a pretty good movie. Sounds like you had a good few days, well other then being stuck on the phone for so long.

@Ithink I would have to consider the opportunity if it involves work on days before and after those of my current contract, 21st November to 23rd December - unlikely to happen now though

That eleventh hour continued job search is ridiculous.

Sometimes we spend hours on hold trying to get through to a 'real' person. And if it all gets too much and you hang up you've only got to go through it all again later.

I haven't seen Goodwill Hunting either. I've heard it's really good.
