Man oh man. I am doing a countdown of my favorite songs with "man" in the title. We are at #9: "21st Century Schizoid Man" by King Crimson.
From their debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King, "21st Century Schizoid Man" is the lead track on that album. It was released as a dual single in 1976 with "Epitaph." It was not a hit, as it failed to chart.
However, if you were trying to explain prog rock to somebody, this is a great song to use as an example.
Notably, the song was covered by April Wine, and Unrest. It was also sampled by Kanye West on his 2010 single, "Power."
This is classic prog, with some outstanding guitar play by Robert Fripp. Sadly, when I saw them, opening for Tool, they did not play this, concentrating instead on newer material. A bit disappointing, but their set was definitely outstanding.
Enjoy!

Yeah, unless you were listening to prog, odds are you wouldn't know about it.

Fripp and King Crimson were quite influential on 80s alternative.

The Adrian Belew era put out a few alternative type songs. Those three albums are great.
