Buying Christmas gifts for people you don't know well

Every Christmas I have the same problem. It's time to buy Christmas gifts, but I have to include some people I don't know well. What are they going to get? Ties for the gents, perfume for the ladies? Socks for the kids? I'm really out of ideas here.

I have no idea, but I'll throw out some things you can consider: fancy Chocolates, a home decoration, candles, fancy ballpoint pen, desk calendar, monogramed coffee cup, a house plant....I'm out of ideas, gift buying even for people you know is tough

I like buying cute novelty stuff for them to remember me by even though they don't really know me.
