I have a concert to go to tonight, so I thought I'd better post this while it's on my feeble mind, and while I have a moment to do so. I'm counting down my favorite pop classics...not "pop" as people think of it today, but the old singers. I think I mentioned yesterday that the "newest" song on this list is from the mid-60s, so needless to say I didn't buy these when they came out originally! Here's today's song.
#8: Round and Round - Perry Como
And just how many of you were thinking I meant the Ratt song?
If that isn't a big enough shock, here's a bigger one: Ms. Clash lover here has this song on her 100 favorites list!!!
Yeah, I know that Perry Como is considered a joke in modern times. He sang pop music, and those cardigan sweaters. Still, Como had a marvelous, mellow voice that was a ray of sunshine through the moon/June/spoon stuff he sang ("Hot Diggity," anyone?
).
And oh, is this song, while simplistic, isn't "simple." It's a love song, delivered in that smooth, traditional Como style.
Como's life was exemplary. He was married for 65 years, keeping his religious faith as the guiding light in his career. It served him quite well. Even 16 years after his death his music is fondly remembered.
Round and Round
Written by Joe Shapiro and Lou Stallman
Recorded by Perry Como
Released as a single, 1957

Just Music. Perry Como sings "Round and Round," a song which hit the Billboard position #1 in 1957, and is also one of my favourite pop songs.

Yes, the Ratt song did spring to mind. Perry Como was a huge star for decades: recording, TV show and starring in movies. Catch a Falling Star? No, It's Impossible!

I loved that song! It never was in the center of my most loved songs. But still, I like to listen it as I´m doing while I answer your post. Thanks!

I will admit that Ratt did spring to mind, but I knew that wasn't right. My grandma had a bunch of his stuff on 8-Track.

Perry Como on 8-track? What a horrible thought.

Always liked Perry's Christmas albums. Always liked the song "It's Impossible." He also had many TV specials during the 60's.
