I've used this one before, man, but it's so good I just have to use it again. This particular music countdown features my favorite songs that have "man" in the title. We are at #4: "Man on the Silver Mountain" by Rainbow.
Written by Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) and vocalist Ronnie James Dio, "Man on the Silver Mountain" is not only the opening track from their 1975 debut album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, it was also the first ever single for the band. Unfortunately, it failed to chart anywhere.
No matter. It remains, if not THE most popular Rainbow tune, one of them. It's certainly one of the band's favorite's, as they play it live all the time, no matter who the vocalist is. Compared to today's hard rock/metal standards, "Man on the Silver Mountain" might not seem too heavy, this stuff was considered pretty damn hard back in the day. Blackmore is one of rock music's premier guitarists, and Dio died as one of heavy metal's all-time great voices. Together, these two were gold.
I've linked to an audio live performance from 1975. This thing is smoking hot, with a fantastic guitar solo from Ritchie Blackmore.
Enjoy!

Dio on Vocals, If there was one band i wish they recorded better live it has to be Rainbow sad this is all I've got. Enjoy. This was when he could still sing...

@RasmaSandra - They are a great band, even though they have had, like, four or five singers. In fact, Ritchie Blackmore fires band members so often that no two Rainbow albums have ever been recorded by the same lineup.

I have a "Best Of" type of album on my iPod. I always crank it up when one of their songs comes up.

A really good song, I don't know why I didn't love this band more, but it does seem to have a Deep Purple vibe to it. I loved Deep Purple.

That is true that a lot of Rainbow tunes sound like Deep Purple with a different singer. Good songs, though.
