lately it's been really cold here..december,goes with the territory.
but one of my neighbors,i'm not sure who, really REALLY needs to have their chimney cleaned.
every night around 10 i get a sneezing attack with the stink it puts out.
either it's dirty,or they're burning green wood.
both are potentially dangerous..you'd think at least once a season they'd get somebody to take care of it.
i guess sooner or later i'll find out who it is if they don't.
i just hope they're WAY over there.

if you have a small house or can close the room off it's not so bad..but most of the ones around here have 2 or 3 because the houses are big

Many of the houses here are relatively small and most of those don't have a fireplace @scarlet_woman I think because this is a desert with short winters ... our winters here usually last maybe 2 weeks ... there's no real reason to have a fireplace.

i didn't know that unclean chimneys are stinky when used. is green wood fresh wood? why is it dangerous to use?

some have flammable saps and the wet also tends to make a lot of smoke or not light at all.

@scarlet_woman I get that, my friend. Are there any inspectors that can check this concern?

i guess Santa Claus won't pass through the chimney because it is not clean? hope your neighbors thinks about the possible respiratory conditions that they may have.

I've lived near a couple houses that don't clean their chimneys. Yuck.

There might be a possibility of calling a local city inspector to send out notices to home owners who have chimneys, so as to warn them of the hazards, if any exist, to not keeping the chimney clean and recommend a phone number for a local chimney sweeper in the area who offers free quotes. Just my 2 cents. Perhaps even contacting a local t.v. station to put out a public notice to people in the area to just inspect their fire place and also not to burn green wood. We get those public announcements in the local news during the winter, every now and then.
