those new lightbulbs that look like a spiral..i don't know about you but i don't like them.
they were supposed to be greener (contains mercury),last longer (barely),and used like the old (they didn't fit half my lights,i had to change fixtures).
they're hard to get rid of..here they want you to save them and drive 40 minutes away to dump them..not on my gas,i'm not.
but getting back to my original point..
i have noticed quite a few times, right as they're about to blow out, they vibrate or buzz.
one of mine is doing this in the kitchen right now.i guess they have a ballast in them..
i'm more in favor of the LED bulbs.a little more expensive, but they do seem to last a wee longer.and they're not environmental hazards.

I heard that those spiraled (and ugly) light bulbs are very dangerous. I´m changing them for LED bulbs. But they are quite expensive.

Since I read that they are not safe I switched back to the old light-bulbs. They last a long time and they are very cheap. What do you think?.

I'm lucky. I applied for the saveonenergy home assistance program running here in Ontario, and a very nice woman came by about a month ago and gave me a whole whack of those new LED lightbulbs. I switched out the spiral one in this room with one of the larger LED ones, and the difference is like day and night.
Check with your utility company to see if they have a similar program.

If you have a Home Depot or Lowe's store near you, they seem to accept them for recycling by the customer service counters.
The LED bulbs have been coming down in cost recently. I've been stocking up at Costco--they're not the best, but the brand they carry is decent and we have yet to have one burn out. The only ones we've ever had issues with are the long tubular ones we replaced the fluorescent bulbs in the kitchen with. They randomly turned off from time to time if they were left on too long. We ended up replacing them with another set and had no issues, so they must have been defective.
Love the energy savings, though! The kids insist on having tons of lights on no matter how often I go turn them all off, so at least I don't have to worry about the bills skyrocketing like I would have with CFLs or incandescents.

Oh I hate those spiral bulbs. They trigger my migraines and they don't last long at all. Our rental company had someone come out and swap out our light fixtures several years ago so now that's all we can use.

@scarlet_woman I hate fluorescent lights. Probably why I always had migraines at school as a kid.
