As Homer & Jethro said, "'Twas the night after the Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring. Somebody had stole all the spoons." Happy Boxing Day to everyone (and for the people in the US, that's not a day to celebrate Joe Frazier and George Foreman! ), and happy song number two in my list of favorite tunes that deal with the subject of musicians on tour. This one is another obvious selection. #2: Homeward Bound - Simon & Garfunkel Oh, sure, this was gonna be left off the list. In fact, you're probably thinking, "There's a better song on the subject?" Yes, there is; however, it's relatively obscure, so let's just say this is the best well-known song about touring in my little ol' opinion. Talk about agonizing?! Wow. "Every day's an endless stream of cigarettes and magazines, and each town looks the same to me." Many of the other songs on this list have alluded to the same feeling, but Paul Simon is such a freaking great poet he makes you feel like you're in that railway station (which, according to Picky Wedia, was the Widnes station near Liverpool [the station has a plaque boasting that it was the station in question in the song]) with him, seeing him sitting alone with his "suitcase and guitar in hand." And is there a better line about the solitude than, "Like emptiness and harmony, I need someone to comfort me"? Just plain wow. Homeward Bound Written by Paul Simon Recorded by Simon & Garfunkel From Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, 1966 I'll play the game and pretend:

What if they had called themselves Paul & Art? My mind wanders sometimes.

Or went alphabetically, Garfunkel & Simon? Or stuck with Tom & Jerry?

George Harrison played with Paul on this song on a SNL appearance in 1975. Darn, I wish I had my TV tuned to that station back then. What a cool performance that must of been Oh yes, I think Homeward Bound is a perfect fit for your series.
