This Little Piggy

I've mentioned before that the Feral Hog population is a destructive, mass-producing critter that can and does destroy property, farms and crops. 35 states but particularly Texas has to remove 70% of the hogs every year (6 million) via trapping, aerial operations or recreational hunting in order to prevent over-population. Well now they've come up with a new plan to kill them off. They will be using a bait with sodium nitrite in it that will cause the hogs to faint, lose consciousness and quickly die. Does this chemical sound familiar to you? It is a preservative that's used to cure bacon, sausage, blended with salt and a multiple of other uses as food additives for humans. Now considering everything we buy today is loaded with 'salt', that's kinda scary. For the hogs, sodium nitrite reduces the amount of oxygen in their hemoglobin and that's what causes them to faint. Anybody feeling light-headed lately? I don't know if I'm on board with this latest testing on hogs. Being the conspiracy theorist that I am, maybe this field-testing isn't just being used for the Wild Hog population. Just saying.
Field tests will start in early 2018 in Texas on feral hog poison baits made from a preservative that’s used to cure bacon and sausage.

I did not know that this can cause the hogs to faint. There is a hunting season here to keep the wild boars population under control. The meat of wild boars is very good to make sausages and stews.

I don't understand why killing them 'all' off, they don't do what they do with feral dogs and cats. Trap, Neuter, Spay and Release @LadyDuck .

@nanette64 They kill the wild boars because they are extremely dangerous, they would be even if neutered.

@LadyDuck Well that is true. I've had to deal with them here on my property and they are destructive.

Oh! Killing is never good! I like the small piggy but I haven’t seen boar with my own eyes! People say they all taste very well! But even when I see the on the television I close my eyes! I don’t like lilling but there should be other methods to decrease the population! Thank you!

@creativeaashish Oh yeah, I'm with ya there. Bunnies are much cuter and a lot cuddlier.

Yes they are @khagendra1994 . The tusks that the male boars have can rip a human apart.

@khagendra1994 They are. I've had several on my property and I do try to avoid them. I'll yell and scare them off.
