To close out 2017 properly here’s another song on my list of favorites that have “year” or “years” in the song’s title. As I mentioned when I started the countdown, there would be some blatantly obvious songs make this list, and “that song” would be here. Well, here’s “that song,” much to the chagrin of NJ Chic. Sorry... #7 Reelin’ in the Years - Steely Dan Too obvious? Yeah, I know. I’ve used it before. JJ’s used it before. Scott’s used it before. But there’s a reason: it’s a really good song. There are debut albums that put you on notice that this is something special. A lot of times those great debut albums turn out to be the only really great album in a band’s career. Not with Steely Dan. They reinforced the promise that the first album made over and over and over again. Sadly, Walter Becker, co-founder of Steely Dan, was one of the casualties of 2017. The years have been reeled in for him. But, oh, the legacy he left. Reelin’ in the Years Written by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen Recorded by Steely Dan From Can’t Buy a Thrill, 1972 The weekends at the college didn’t turn out like you planned:
