Hugo is starting the coals to make the barbecue. He will roast extra meat so that I can slice in thinly and take it with me for the trip to La Herradura.
La Herradura is a small beach near Coquimbo, in the north of Chile. The first time I went, over 60 years ago, there were earth paths made by goats. The few houses were made from adobe and the people there took better care of the places where the goat slept than of their own houses.
If you dug a little bit, you could find arrowheads from old times. And still from older times, you could find some fossil shells from the time the sea was above the ground and then had retreated.
Now there´s nothing. There are old small beach houses like my aunt´s. They are very modest. Specially since the new buildings are houses and apartments that are as good as the best of the biggest cities.
I am happy because this year we will have a new stove. I´ll cook yummy food for my aunt.

It is now an elegant getaway, except by the houses of old timers like my aunt.

@marguicha Many of our seaside resorts are like that too. A few old fishing shacks surrounded by flash units.

I was thrilled finding arrowheads and bits of earthenware in places where the ancient natives cleaned their fish.

Where you able to keep some of those arrow heads and or fossils? I always prefered places that are left untouched at least most of the time.

The beach sounds better the way it was in the past.

I know. It seems that many places were better some time ago.

Sometimes small cottages enhances the beauty of a beach in spite of big apartments.
