Do you still have a landline phone?

United States

Considering the cost of cell phones, I am wondering if people still have landline phones, too. If you do, what is the point of having a landline phone when you have a cell phone?

My landline is connected to my Internet. It's my main phone. My cell is primarily for emergencies.

@MsBooklover No, I don't have dial up Internet. I have a complete package, Phone, Internet, and Cable. The phone is plugged into the modem.

@just4him Oh I see. I rent the modem from Comcast, but it is getting expensive. I will have to see how much a modem costs and maybe buy one.

@Letranknight2015 That is true. You never know when your phone will break down. If you can afford it, is an option.

Haven't had one in 10 years. My grandmother has one, and a cellphone. She hardly answers either. And hardly carries her cell on her

Perhaps because I don't like cell phones and have little use for phones in general.

I know a man who does not like cell phones. So if you don't have much use for phones, in general, are you hearing-impaired?

Earlier use to have telephone not in use at all was wasting money by paying bills gosshh.. disconnected having a cell phone is more worth than having a telephone isn't.

There are some very basic cell phones out there, and they are still not easy for everyone to understand.

@MsBooklover I think it would eventually be gone as technology would further advance and there will be no need for a landline phone.

Yes we do, but not from the ancient type of landline. All internet providers while installing wi-fi, they have mandatory rule here to have a landline connection from them.

@MsBooklover - yup. at least on a cell phone, they can leave a text or voice message, on a land line, thats an extra youd have to pay for.

We don't have landline phones. And, don't know it's my good luck or badluck I never had the opportunity to use a landline phone. I think nowadays landlines are used only in some offices maybe.

@MsBooklover I think that in the future landlines would be history because why would anyone even think of having a landline when cellphones are more cheaper on monthly billing nowadays.

I keep it in case I lose my phone, forget my phone, or something happens and I can't use my cell phone. I'm thinking about getting rid of it. I also use the landline number when I have to give my number to a place, but never want to talk to them. I don't pay much for it, but saving anything by canceling it sounds good right now.

Other people have told me that they keep it for the same reasons. Some individuals really hate cell phones but have one because it is necessary. They really prefer their landline.

No. My parents haven't had one since I was in the 6th grade which is a middle school in my town. I am not a senior in college who will be graduating in 4 months. There isn't much a reason for one anymore. I have friend's parents that still have them and the only people that call them on it are telemarketers.
