My students treat me like their own parent. They are honest with me regarding their problems with studies, family, and friendship.
So confident that last night, my group of 5 students shared to me some secrets of their classmates.
"Ma'am, what is your stand on LGBT?"
"Ma'am, how about stealing? "
"Ma'am, there is one third year student who is a know-it-all."
There are many revelations they told me. I can keep secrets so they should not worry about it. My lips are sealed.
Can you keep secrets?

It's better to keep it to yourself but I would doubt them if they were my classmates.

if you reveal the secrets to your hubby and he keeps in a secret, then you 2 will be just fine secretive couple.

sometimes students prefer to share things with teachers they trust first, to help them process it, before they can share it or discuss it with others

i agree with you. maybe too, they share their secrets to their teachers because the teachers are not their family and they believe the teachers cannot divulge anything they shared to them.

I can keep confidential matters confidential but I believe a secret is no longer a secret once shared. What I consider a secret is something I have never ever shared to a single soul. And I have those secrets I prefer to keep a secret to myself.

i have a barrel full of secrets since my college years, and they are secrets up till now. these secrets are from my classmates, co-employees, and students. once my students say, "ma'am, secret lang", i keep my lips sealed, even when my other colleagues know about the secret if apparently my students spill it to them.-

@ridingbet I can't understand why people would say it's a secret and yet they share that to another person. The moment you shared it, it's no longer a secret.

if ever i come to know that somebody tells me that secret, i will still keep my mouth shut because i still consider that a secret in me. they won't know i know that secret. and if ever my answers will be divulged to others, i can just deny those statements because they should know that i know their secrets and they should watch out if i open my mouth.

Yes. But I have the potential to unintentionally reveal it. So I prefer not to know secret of others , for me to keep a secret is a big responsibility

if maybe the secret is something that may be detrimental to others, like a crime, maybe i can tell that secret to the proper personalities.

When I was teaching one of my students had problem of bullying. We used to talk together and he tells me lots of things. He even tells me about his parents. I never reveal what I discuss with my students. They would stop coming to me if I did. As for keeping secrets, it depends on what the secret was. Generally though, I pride myself on being a good keeper of secrets.

that is great. actually every human being should be trustworthy, and i wonder why others can just rumor-monger or gossip about others' lives, that may cause bashing or bullying.

that is so true. i also have secrets from my friends in the hospital where i worked as HN, and those secrets are never divulged to others as well. unless if the secrets are life-threatening, maybe i can tell somebody about the secrets.
