Is a good percentage in school results important?

Education should be designed to prepare people for life. But nowadays more importance is given to the results. This is leading to a kind of pressure cooker environment for students who are finding it difficult to cope with the stress associated with taking exams. Both parents and teachers are also contributing to this stress. Shouldn’t education be just a stepping stone to a bright and successful future.

Nowadays competition is getting tougher each year so I guess education is very much important but I also believe that if you have goals in life and you work hard for it even if you don't have a degree in college there's nothing impossible.

Education is important but we should not give too much importance to marks in the examinations. Nowadays there is more importance to marks than good values.

@mayka123 Well, we can't argue with examinations because it's the standards of the schools. It will determine if you studied well on your subjects.

@rheicel Having examinations is fine. But insisting on percentages above 90 is asking too much from kids. Those who are unable to meet the expectations end up getting depressed or taking their lives.

I do think that students are so pressured in their studies today. I think the teachers and parents to support and pressure them.

Yes parents and teachers should not pressurise the children too much. Children should be encouraged to pursue their hobbies also.

Sometimes I imagine an education system where tests and exams are done away with; that was when I was a student. After graduation and I became a teacher for some time, I discovered that the results of tests are important to both teachers and students. They are not the only important thing though. Teaching kids how to have skills for the modern world is equally important. It even trumps results-based education.

Results are important. But students should not be given too much stress to achieve those results. Its okay to get a little less percentage.

@mayka123 it's okay as long as you can apply it practically. That's more important.

Our education systems should come up fully with skill based education system in India where after a certain grade student should trained in whichever field they are comfortable with. Skill based education should totally be based on ones area of interest. The burden of achieving certain percentage would then be a secondary thing !

Wish they start skill based education in India. Kids would get more interested in studies then.
