I love politics and criminal justice. In some of my research assignments, I have come across dumb laws. Every state has them. They are still on the books. I am taking one state at a time and studying the history of the laws. I don't know if I will ever use them in life, but it is definitely interesting reading.
I will also post the laws per state here on mylot. Add to them if you have heard of some. I will start with Alabama since this is my home.
Here are some of the dumb laws for Alabama:
1. It is illegal to impersonate clergy.
2. Incestuous marriages are legal. (no wonder we are stigmatized)
3. You may not have an icecream cone in your back pocket at any time.
4. It is illegal to sell peanuts in Lee County after sundown.
5. It is illegal to drive blindfolded.
6. Putting salt on a railroad track may be punishable by death.
7. It is illegal to drive down a one-way street with a lantern on the front of your vehicle.
8. In Mobile, it is illegal to bathe in the city fountain.
9. It is illegal to wear blue jeans on Noble street in Anniston.
10. It is illegal to howl at ladies in the city limits.

Most places don't allow people to bathe in their fountains. But about once a year, somebody puts detergent in the fountain in downtown Guelph. I don't think they've ever caught anyone doing it, but it's most likely college kids. (It's a college town.)
