Bonsai as many would know is the art of creating stunted trees in trays. To get this effect branches and roots are trimmed and wires are used to bend them to take the shape that the artist desires. Most trees do not yield fruits and flowers as they are not allowed to and that includes hawthorn that has purple flowers that hang down that turn into beautiful orange fruits. I have this plant in my garden and I have kept it that way. Hawthorn is the choice of many bonsai artists. I attended a course on bonsai and gave up midway as I just could not think of torturing the plant. If only trees could speak. What is your view on bonsai?

We bought my Mum one when she turned 70 and it was still going up until the day she had to leave her house.

But I am sure if you knew how one gets there you would not encourage bonsai - just saying. You must have heard of Chinese torture - this is Japanese (lol)

I like bonsai very much. I regard it as a kind of art. I often image I could become smaller enough to live there

You perhaps do not know how the plant is tortured.

One of our friend's favorite collection is Bonsai plants. I think they have a different kind already.

We called it "Botak" tree, Botak means "Bald head" in Malay. Don't see much leaves on it except for twigs that twist and turns- Bonsai
