New Fitbit, Which was the Discussion I Lost Last Week

Last week I went to get my brakes checked and an oil change and decided to write a discussion while waiting. It was pretty long, per my normal, but when I tried to upload my photo something messed up and I lost the whole thing discussion and all. In hindsight, if I ever decide to write another one on my smartphone, I'll try to remember to upload it first and then edit to include my photo. That way my work won't get lost accidentally. I didn't need new brakes which is great, but I will need a new tire eventually. I left with minimal cost to my budget. The main thing I planned on sharing about was my new fitbit. It's in the photo to the right and shows it while it's charging. I tried to take a photo the info showing but it looks like I'd probably need someone else to take the photo as I don't have enough time to activate that and snap the image. The part of the collage on the left is the reading from my phone of my steps for one day. I got the fitbit for free from my daughters. Both daughters bought this type and went through two of them before getting their apple phones instead. The issues they found was when charging the battery section tended to pull out and I think they lost that portion on their first fitbits. This one was my younger daughters and it doesn't seem to have the same issues at least not yet. She gave it to my older daughter who then gave it to me. I tried an app on my phone, but one day it told me I only walked 77 steps even though I worked that day cashiering. I've found that when I work I get between 13,000 to 16,000 steps in and when I do some window jobs before hand it's even more. Once I realized the app wasn't working very well, I asked my daughter to reconfigure the fitbit so she could pass it on to me as planned. The images are on my phone and I'm writing this on my desktop, so I'll be adding the images in just a few minutes.

I too was wondering about how those things work- it would certainly encourage one to keep moving- thats for sure.

I knew I did a lot of walking while going back and forth to my station each day, but I didn't realize I got that many steps in each day while working. I did find out, though, that a part of my 'steps' are really me moving my arms while scanning and bagging what people buy each day. It seems like each day this week I've gotten a notification on my phone when standing in one place that I'd gotten to ten thousand steps. I found that quite odd until I mentioned it to a customer and they explained that the device thinks I'm moving since we move our arms when walking. Therefore, probably about three thousand of my daily steps when working are just me standing there working my arms. On my days off, I'm not getting quite that many steps in, but once the wound heals on my foot maybe I can change that as I should be more ready and able to do more.

@MarymargII I'm not sure the cause of the wound on my foot. I'm guessing it may have come from me scratching my foot with the toe nail on the other foot during the night last summer sometime. I didn't notice it right away, but then I tried to take care of it myself. It was a bit deep sort of like a small tunnel. I began by wearing an Unna Boot for a few months and have changed to wearing some different types of wrappings to keep the blood flowing properly in my legs so healing can happen. I found out a few weeks ago that wounds of this nature typically take six months to heal which would mean March for me, but i hope each week that it heals faster.

@MarshaMusselman How did you hurt your foot? And I do hope it gets better soon. One thing though- I do think when you move your arms- although you may not be walking- it counts for burning calories and getting your heart rate up I'm sure. :)

I've wanted one for a while, but figured I wouldn't be purchasing one for a few years yet. I looked at them at work yesterday just to see and some brands are about seventy dollars while newer versions of what I have are over one hundred. It looks like I may be waiting longer to replace mine although it would be nice to get one for my husband. Maybe it would motivate him to move more, but maybe not.

Wow the days you work you take a ton of steps! I hate when the site glitches like that. I always copy what I have written before adding a photo or submitting so that way if it encounters a problem I can just repaste what I wrote and not have to retype it all again!

I'm sure it wasn't a site glitch, but rather a glitch from using my smartphone rather than my computer desktop.

Although this type of device isn't a requirement with our insurance through work, it's certainly helpful. It monitors my sleep, and my steps. I can add activities if I do extra exercises and I can add the foods eaten, although I only do that periodically. I am able to scan my barcodes, but I don't yet know how to add things made from scratch. Other apps do that better, but all of it takes time. I'm hoping that having a fitbit that connects to the web will mean I won't need a coach to meet my long-term health goals.

fitbits are for people who count everything in thier lives- calories, steps, reps, grains of rice.

I don't have a fitbit or anything similar but it does sound like a fun idea. I may look into it one of these days.
