Tragic Loss of a Singer

She had a fantastic voice and a dynamite talent. Not only with singing but also with acting. I am referring to Whitney Houston who left this world on February 11, 2012. Her death was noted as an accidental drowning in the bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. She was only 48 years old. Houston had won six Grammy Awards and 22 American Music Awards during her career. She was born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey. Growing up she sang in her church in the gospel choir. Making money modeling she was the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine. Once she was discovered in New York City and signed to a recording contract she showed the world what great talent she had. Among her hits singles are “Saving All My Love for You”, “How Will I Know”, “You Give Good Love” and “The Greatest Love of All”. All of this just from her first album released in 1985. Her next album came out in 1987 with more hits like “Didn’t We Almost Have It All” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”. In 1992 she made her movie debut in “The Bodyguard” with Kevin Costner. It featured one of her all-time greatest hits “I Will Always Love You”. She co-starred in two more movies “Waiting to Exhale” and “The Preacher’s Wife”, performing on the hit soundtracks for both movies. In 1992 she married singer Bobby Brown and had a daughter in 1993. They were divorced in 2007. It was a shame that despite coming out with more hits she also got into substance abuse and started spending time in rehab clinics. In 2009 she released her finally album and embarked on her first world tour in 2010. Houston was back into rehab for drug and alcohol treatment in 2011. She was expected to perform at a pre-Grammy Awards party when she died on February 11. A week later on February 18 her funeral was televised from the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey with many singers offering musical tributes. She was laid to rest beside her father at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey. Tragically she was joined in heaven by her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown who died at the age of 22 on July 26, 2015. Strange as it might be she too was found in a bathtub and unresponsive. She was laid to rest beside her mother. Any Whitney Houston fans out there?

I was never a fan but she could carry a tune which is rare these days.

Most of the women singers that have come along lately just don't interest me and I don't listen to their music I listen to the ones like Whitney and Cher and Madonna and other women who could really belt it out @JohnRoberts

That is such a shame. So sad that so many talented people can't seem to handle the fame and all the hype that goes with it.

Too many go the wrong way and it is such a waste of talent @JudyEv

Her rendition of the National Anthem at the Superbowl is still the best I've ever heard.

Happy Anniversary. This album has been my favorite ever since I was a little girl. I was mesmerized the first time I heard it and still am up to this day. RIP Whitney Houston.
