Still No Word About Surgery

I haven't been around on here much, partly because I don't have much to say, and partly because I've just been feeling so run down and exhausted lately. I am having trouble staying awake trying to catch up on here this evening, so I think I will lay down for a bit.
Still no word about when I'm to have surgery. I called the specialist and left another message on Monday. No one has returned my call. I tried again yesterday and got an answering service. The lady I spoke to did reveal that the receptionist is hardly ever in, that the best time to reach her is between 8:30 and noon. I meant to try again today but ended up oversleeping. So I will try again tomorrow. At this point I'm fed up and might go off if I get sent to voicemail again. Not returning calls and making me wait in limbo for 4 months is unacceptable. I can't make any plans for the near future because I don't know when I will be having surgery. My friend wanted me and my boyfriend to be in his wedding next month, and I don't know if I'll be able to. Sometimes I think the medical community doesn't take into consideration that we have lives that they are forcing us to put on hold while they poke around about these things.
Anyway, that's what's going on with me. Nothing really. I did finish the outline for a novel I plan on writing, if I ever feel up to actually writing it.
Well I feel a migraine coming on so I guess I'd better take that nap.

Is there a way you can go to their office in person? They certainly can't blow you off if you're standing right there in front of them in the doctor's office!

@moffittjc Yes, I have MediCal (California's version of Medicaid) and that is a service they offer to those of us without transportation, because many low-income individuals are without transportation. It really comes in handy when being sent out of the area!

No, unfortunately, as they are 3 hours away. I have to take a taxi service (provided by my insurance) to get to and from my appointments, and they won't drive me down there if I don't have an appointment.

@Srbageldog Oh wow, that is quite a long ways away. The insurance company really pays for a taxi service to drive you that far?

@Srbageldog I hope you will hear from them well before April. Their way to deal with patients is terrible.

@LadyDuck It really is terrible. Thank you, hopefully I'll hear back from them soon. I will call again in a couple hours once their office is open.

I guess the receptionist doesn't work much (I have never heard of a doctor's office that only has a part-time receptionist) but if she doesn't return my calls, I have no way to get in touch with the doctor. Perhaps I could try to email the office or something, if I can find an email address. My primary doctor is out on maternity leave until April, but if I haven't had the surgery by then I will ask her to put in a referral to a different gynecological oncologist.

I haven't been on much either, just feeling off. Not sick but just off and tired. I even fell asleep at my desk today for a bit. Tess was reading her book for English and it was just too quiet I guess. I haven't looked any further the last few days on my health and looking for a doctor. I cant believe they still have not gotten back to you. One of the many reasons I think our health system and doctors suck! Hope you feel better.

@Srbageldog It is a vicious circle, depressed and stressed leads us to want to do nothing and then the more we dont do the more we get depressed. I dont think the health care system/doctors even care.

@Ithink I don't think they care either. We're just numbers to them, if something happens to us there's more than enough people to replace us.

I have been so burned out on dealing with the healthcare system. Half the time I don't even want to go to my appointments (I haven't had many since before Christmas, and it's been nice.) I am just tired and depressed all the time and I want to put this stuff behind me.

@infatuatedbby Nope. I called twice last week, and twice the week before that. I think I'll call one more time and let them know that if I don't hear from them, I am going to assume that I need to find another doctor. This is beyond ridiculous.

@Srbageldog I'm truly sorry you are getting this run-around. Insurance companies can be a real pain, but I'm afraid my state is going to inflict single payer on us and that will create even longer wait times and less choice. If it happens, most of the best doctors will probably move to other states.

@bagarad I am also in California, so I suppose I will be dealing with the same issues if that happens! It is ridiculous how long wait times are already. It has been almost a year since I was first told I needed to have this surgery, and it still has not been taken care of. The gynecologist who discovered my issue (severe endometriosis binding my reproductive organs to my intestines) left her practice shortly after performing my diagnostic laparoscopy, and the doctor who took over for her acts like I don't have this issue, even though I've seen the images of what it looks like inside and the oncologist is also aware of what I'm dealing with. It is incredibly frustrating. The replacement gynecologist refused to refer me to a different oncologist for a second opinion and instead wanted to completely start over with diagnostic testing.

I have tried repeatedly to get referred to another doctor, preferably one who is closer to home. My stupid insurance keeps trying to send me to Women's Health clinics rather than to another oncologist. I need a specific specialist to perform this surgery. I guess I should start calling up my insurance and yelling at them.

I have tried and the insurance keeps trying to send me to a regular gynecologist instead of a gynecological oncologist.

I have tried to get referred to a different doctor, but my insurance keeps rerouting the referral to a doctor who can't help me. I need a certain type of specialist to perform the surgery.
