Hertz is disappointing

I checked online to search different car rental companies before our trip to USA. Finally I chose Hertz since I think it is the best as it charges the most expensive among other companies.
When we were back to China for two days, my husband's credit card company notified him to deduct $63 from Hertz. We felt strange as everything went well when we were driving.
I emailed to ask Hertz what's going on. Today I got their reply and told me that this money is for fuel. It doesn't make a sense at all since we filled it full nearby before we returned the car. I am quite sure about it.
Unfortunately we didn't take a photo for the dashboard when we returned the car as it showed the gasoline is full. And I didn't pay by credit card and I just paid it by cash. I even doubt whether I could find the receipt
Here when we returned the car, the staff will check it and we can leave if everything is good. I supposed it was the same for Hertz. I did ask the staff whether everything was good and she said yes. How come they suddenly said we didn't fill up the car?
I am not pleased to it as it is more like cheating. I will see whether I can find the gas receipt when I am home. If not, I will still write to Hertz even if I may not have the proof. Very disappointing to have this service even if we are a gold member

Thats awful, I can't believe they are charging you that much for gas. I would call and talk to a supervisor and tell them you filled it and the girl told you everything was fine. Normally they do the check in front of you and tell you if you owe gas. I won't use them next time I travel.

Exactly. And usually we just filled about no more than USD10-30 for gas and it would be full. Since we were in a foreign country, we never filled the gas when it was nearly empty. I liked to fill it up when it was half gas. And $63 can be full of the gas, I guess. It means that our car was empty of gas when we returned it? It doesn't make a sense at all.

in the usa, the price you pay does not mean improved quality! Sadly, a lot of companies do this! its why its important to take pictures of everything before you drive - (sometimes you get it at 1/4 tank of gas, yet they expect you to leave it full). pics of the outside - and be sure to note any scratches(if any) that are on the car before you get it!

We don't have much experience to it. I am so sure that the tank is full as it is shown in the dashboard. But we didn't take photos to it. Here after the staff glanced at it and if the tank is full and nothing wrong with the car, then we can go. We thought it was the same in USA and perhaps even better because they have long history for the rental car business. Very frustrating to this situation.

They charge a lot more if they fuel for you. But, if you did pump the fuel already prior to returning - I would call or e-mail requesting to speak to upper management. And explain your situation, you returned the car the woman said okay. Now, you are seeing this charge when you pumped already.
Normally they will tell you, oh by the way you did not pump gas - we will have to charge you & you sign off. Did you keep the receipt when you signed off when you returned the car?

I am not sure whether I can find the gas receipt which I filled up in the gas station. I need to check it at home. When we returned to the car, the staff used the key to turn on the car and check it. I asked her whether everything was OK and then I was good to go. This staff didn't ask us to sign anything. We didn't know much about this in USA and then we left as I already confirmed with the staff that we were good to leave.

@infatuatedbby I will try to see how it goes. It is a little difficult since I am far away from there now. Perhaps this is why they picked on charging me since it is inconvenient for me to discuss it with them. But they just picked a wrong one as I am a fair customer. I am nice most of the time but I will fight for my rights if they charge me something unreasonable.

@youless I don't think you need to provide them proof, just verbally you can tell them that you pumped gas prior to dropping the car off as you understood the agreement. The staff checked the car and I asked her if all is good, she said yes good to leave. There was no alert that there was no gas! If there was, I would most certainly pump it but I did so already!?

I also have such kind of doubt. Why they deducted the money when we were back to China for two days? They shall know it is not easy for us to handle it. The language, the 16 hours time zone difference etc. But I will still fight for our rights and we should not pay for what we shouldn't pay.
