Mr. Lister Had a Traumatizing Day

Poor Mr. Lister. There he was, all comfy on the bed, tucking me in this morning when all of a sudden he got spooked. He froze and turned to stare out into the open hallway. There was nothing there, which in turn spooked me. It sounded like it was raining rather hard and I got up to do a walk-through of the apartment to make sure there wasn't any reason for my cat to be acting like there was an intruder. Turns out there WAS an intruder -- and its name was HAIL, which fell from the sky in fast, massive clumps, intruding on Mr. Lister's sense of safety! I sat at the window and watched the hail fall and bounce off the pavement below for a while. It hailed so much it turned the neighboring parking lot white! I could hear children shrieking and playing outside in it. They have probably never seen snow and thought that's what it was. Mr. Lister, however, was having none of it. He crammed himself under the bed and refused to come out as long as the ice was falling! It's just as well, because shortly after I returned to bed, it started thundering, and with the thunder came flashes of lightning. It sounded like it was right overhead, and one thunderclap actually shook the apartment. For a moment there I thought I was going to have to cram myself under the bed with Lister! Good thing for both of us that didn't happen, since I think it would be rather cramped with the two of us under there, and my boyfriend would have most likely returned home from work to find his girlfriend stuck like Winnie the Pooh in Rabbit's hole. At some point I must have fallen back to sleep, and the thunderstorm must have passed, because when I awoke again Lister was curled up on my legs. What an exhausting, traumatizing day he's had! When the boyfriend came home he told him all about it. Now all is well, and he is snoozing peacefully on the sofa. Tomorrow will be another traumatizing day, alas -- my sister is coming over, which means more hiding under the bed for Lister. Life is full of trauma when you're afraid of everything! Poor Lister I am sorry that another traumatizing day will ruin the day. Cats are scared of sudden noises.

Haha, Lister does the same thing! I've seen him fly up in the air because I moved my hand too fast or happened to move my leg and it startled him.

@Ithink I wonder the same thing. Lister has always been skittish, but he showed up here as a stray kitten and we lured him to us with food. He still acts very afraid of everything. Sometimes I wonder what happened to him when he was a kitten that made him that way. Maybe he belonged to somebody and they dumped him.

pft..boo still freaks out over storms. when he was my uncle's cat, they lived in a trailer parked under pine trees. a good wind storm would knock the cones down on the metal roof and scare the piss out of him. to this day,he's always freaking out over wind. there's no cones here,boo..

Aww, poor Boo. I can imagine how freaked out Lister would be if pine cones fell on our roof. He'd think the world was ending.

Your description of Mr. Lister sounds exactly like a cat I used to have as a kid. Her name was Spooky, which was very fitting for two reasons: one, she was all black, and two, she was afraid of everything!

Spooky sounds like Lister's double! He sure is a scaredy cat.

@Srbageldog Yep, she was certainly a scaredy cat too! Maybe Lister and Spooky were brother and sister? lol

My cat does not like anybody besides me and my boyfriend. He hides from everybody.
