Ajar

‘Ajar’ means slightly open. It may be a door, or the mouth. Anything that opens and closes may be ajar. When I am in my deep sleep, while sitting in a bus for example, my mouth is slightly open. I remember my son silently laughing at me when he saw me asleep with my mouth ajar. Good thing there were no saliva dripping from my open mouth. When I watch a noontime show and the camera focuses on some of the audience, there are some people whose mouths are ajar. Even when they watch a deadly stunt or get mesmerized by the singing voice of the contestants of a singing competition in that particular noontime show, their mouths are slightly open. I believe they are in awe. This night, our main door is slightly ajar, so my son closed the door tightly. I also sleep with my bedroom door ajar, as precaution if, God forbid, I might have nightmares or health problems again. Do you leave your bedroom doors ajar?

I always have my door open because I have a very small room which I like and I don't have a window.

@JustBhem but how if you hear your mother shouting, and you close the door as what you sometimes post in your discussions?

We keep our bedroom door wide open, we are the only two in the house. Ajar in my native language translates as "socchiusa", it means "slightly open".

but snoring can disturb the sleep of others. drooling? maybe the person can just cover his face while asleep. so with a mouth ajar.

I used too when the kids are small. From time to time yes but most of the time my husband closed before he sleeps.

We leave our bedroom doors wide open. When we have guests, we leave them ajar, so Doodles came come and go as he pleases.
