Ever since I can remember my favorite flower has been the rose. It is delicate, beautiful, and smells so sweet. My favorite color of rose is yellow. A few years ago when I started making tussie mussies I found out that there were meanings attributed not only to the flowers but to the color of the flower. The message behind giving someone a yellow rose is: joy, friendship, the promise of a new beginning. Doing a little more research I found that way back in the Victorian days the flowers or tussie mussie that were given were based on the feelings of the giver for the recipient. You had to be very careful not to send a Gardenia (secret love) to someone when an Arborvitae (unchanging friendship) was closer to what you feel. So, what is your favorite flower?

A yellow rose means happiness, but also jealousy in the "language of flowers". My favorite flower is the gardenia, the flower that adorned the men lapel buttonhole. I have a beautiful gardenia plant, it is 19 years old.

@HazySue My gardenia is now very big. It is in a large vase, I move it in the greenhouse during winter.

The lotus flower represents elegance and is often used in religious ceremonies. The morning glory is representative of unrequited love or were often on Victorian gravestones to signify a love that never ended.

That is a beautiful begonia. I was surprised to find out that the message behind the begonia is to not be lulled into a false sense of security and to always repay any favors given to you. On the other hand it also represents connections with other people and good communication. The color adds another meaning to the flower.
