Favorite Robert Palmer Songs #10 - "Addicted to Love"

I find myself in a Robert Palmer mood this morning, so I thought, "Why not a countdown of my favorite Palmer songs?" So here we are at #10: "Addicted to Love." Actually, I probably like "Addicted to Love" more than it's tenth spot, because it IS a great song (Slade vocalist Noddy Holder has called it a "perfect pop song," declaring it the one song that he wishes he'd written himself,) but years of overexposure have kind of dropped it here. Anyway, from his 1985 album, Riptide, "Addicted to Love" was intended as a duet with Chaka Khan, only her record company put the kibosh on that idea (Palmer still credited her with vocal arrangements in the liner notes.) Duran Duran/Power Station guitarist Andy Taylor and Chic/Power Station drummer Tony Thompson both play on the track. "Addicted to Love" was an international smash, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (as well as #1 on that Magazine's Top Rock Tracks chart,) and Top 5 in six other countries. The song has notably been covered by Tina Turner, Ciccone Youth (Sonic Youth with Mike Watt,) Johnny Cash backed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (sadly, it was not released,) The Eagles of Death Metal, and Garth Brooks.
