A Fallen Pine

This has been a bad year for pine trees on our property. The roots don't go very deep, and when there is an extended drought like the one we've had here in California, the roots aren't long enough to reach the water below ground. Trees must be deeply rooted to survive winds and they must have water to survive at all. So many have died. As I was looking around the property yesterday, I saw this poor tree. It's one of the few that's not yet been cut up completely. I'm amazed at how large its root system is. As I stood next to it, the top edge was above my head. Do you see the baby oak next to it? It's one of two that were stunted because the tall pine kept the sun away from them. Now they have begun to grow again and can mature. God doesn't like bare ground. As I observe nature, God speaks to me about my own condition. If I'm not deeply rooted in his Word, there is nothing to keep me from falling. My roots must go deep, too.
