A Fallen Pine

This has been a bad year for pine trees on our property. The roots don't go very deep, and when there is an extended drought like the one we've had here in California, the roots aren't long enough to reach the water below ground. Trees must be deeply rooted to survive winds and they must have water to survive at all. So many have died.
As I was looking around the property yesterday, I saw this poor tree. It's one of the few that's not yet been cut up completely. I'm amazed at how large its root system is. As I stood next to it, the top edge was above my head.
Do you see the baby oak next to it? It's one of two that were stunted because the tall pine kept the sun away from them. Now they have begun to grow again and can mature. God doesn't like bare ground.
As I observe nature, God speaks to me about my own condition. If I'm not deeply rooted in his Word, there is nothing to keep me from falling. My roots must go deep, too.
What other thoughts come to your mind when you see this scene?

I hadn't thought of that. There are plenty of possums and skunks around the property. I doubt if the raccoons would live down there. I'll have to keep watch for the critters. Of course, I don't know how long the tree will stay there.

@JudyEv I'd rather not have the foxes -- especially the endangered kit foxes. It would be horrible if we accidently ran over one trying to get up our driveway. I've never seen a fox on our property, but we have had coyotes. We'd rather they didn't stick around.

That's true. I hate losing trees, but look at it this way. Losing this tree will enable a couple of oak trees to grow into mature trees.

I see the natural order of Mother nature. The old pine goes down but that gives life to the oaks.

Even we are experiencing drought here as well. Hope we all can get the required rain

I hope the rain starts soon so the trees can get rooted.
