You may think that supporting post-16 students is the easiest job in the world. I have been placed on this earth to tell you that it isnt. It isn't just the fact that most of the students we support are on the autistic spectrum and/or have dyslexia and/or have mental health or emotional or behavioural issues and/or any other moderate learning difficulty ... It's also all those bluddy hormones. Especially the girls. Everything becomes such a DRAMA!!! And now that we have a group whom we affectionately {or patronisingly, take your pick} call the Little Ones working in our team, our staff room is often also a place for DRAMA!!! My job is exhausting. Thoroughly and ridiculously exhausting. It involves having to break down instructions into manageable chunks, listening to the trials and tribulations of teenagehood, becoming frustrated when it is SO obvious some students lie, lie and lie again, taking notes which will never be read, wanting to knock some sense into youngsters who awkwardly follow the crowd in an effort to fit in, praising, admonishing, reprimanding, waiting in hot rooms for an hour and a half whilst a student talks to the police, swinging from chandeliers ... Even when I'm in a classroom doing nothing but watching paint dry, it's exhausting. This isn't to say that I don't like my job, because I do. But the emotional aspect does nothing positive for my own wellbeing. Yesterday was an exhausting day. I am hoping today will be less so. Oh, and I bought some serum for my hair. It's now soft, like a baby's, and when I get stressed in a lesson I can simply run my hands through my hair and find a little happiness. Nice.
