1919 – Spoiler alerts.
A short story by a writer also known as Ingulphus, a pseudonym he often adopted.
The Everlasting Club is a Cambridge University variation on the infamous Hellfire Club. It has only seven members who have signed a declaration pledge to be members not just for life but forever, even after death.
The numbers drop when the men die off one by one until only one man remains alive. He turns up at their hired university meeting room, and his screams of terror lead the staff to run to the locked room and burst in. They find him alone and dead, but the membership book is still signed by all seven members of the club.
The room has been sealed up with orders to never open it again, and the legend is shared with a group of University professors by the narrator. Creepy, if a little predictable but very atmospheric.

@arthurchappell Oh, yes. But most reviews don't actually go so far as to give away the ending. That's why they're reviews; they offer a taste to encourage you {or not} to want {or not} to read/see/listen to the reviewed product. :)

Oh, I get this. I was thinking, but horror stories are usually not that good, but have to agree this is a real horror story. You paint this well my friend.
