I was so busy last night, with things like cleaning and laundry, that I plum forgot to post another song that was #1 in my lifetime! I noticed that April is doing this, too, now, so you see what a horrid influence I am on people. I'm up to 1976, and here's a great #1 song from that year. 1976 (Pop): December 1963 (Oh, What a Night) - Four Seasons Another song from 100 favorites list. I've used this here before, and I'll use it again!! I remember getting the 45: there was a strip mall where my favorite record store was right across the street from my high school, and on lunch break I went over there and got it! And, as I've mentioned before, this song began life as "December 1933," and was going to be about the repeal of Prohibition. Then producer/writer's then-girlfriend (later wife) suggested making it more suggestive. Somehow I don't think the repeal of Prohibition would've come out sounding this good. Another rarity about this song, in the world of the Four Seasons, anyway: Frankie Valli didn't sing lead on it! In fact, that song featured three different band members doing vocals: drummer Gary Polci sang lead on most of the song, Valli did the bridge, and bassist Don Ciccione sang the falsetto part. At the time, both the Four Seasons and Frankie Valli were enjoying separate success: the Four Seasons with the song "Who Loves You," and Valli with "My Eyes Adored You." The song had everything it needed to be a hit in the early disco era, and it was. It's a classic. Oh, what a song. December 1963 (Oh, What a Night) Written by Bob Gaudio and Judy Parker Recorded by the Four Seasons From Who Loves You, 1975 #1 for three weeks What a lady, what a night:

Yes. a nice song which I liked although I enjoyed their other #1's a bit more... This was their fifth and final #1 hit in the US. And the only 4 Seasons song to hit #1 in Britain. A great group who managed to shift with the times and remain relevant for quite some time

I also had this on 45. Never realized that Frankie Valli didn't do the lead.
