Saturday my 15 year old son competed in the National Shakespeare Competition at the regional level. The winner goes on to NY City to compete at the national level. My son won the school competition for the 2nd year in a row. Last year he did not place in the competition, and we were hoping this year he would do better. Well, he did do better, he received an honorable mention, which basically means he was a runner up. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the competition as I had to work and the competition had been rescheduled from the following week due to weather, so I was unable to get the time off work on short notice. My son's teacher brought him, and e-mailed me afterwards and said that according to her, and most of the rest of the audience, my son should have gotten 1st. She said when he was announced as an honorable mention, there were audible gasps and dissenting chatter (her words). However, honorable mention is not too shabby, it's better than last year.. and he got $25 for it also! Now he's focused on his high school musical this coming weekend. He will play Dr. Frederick Frankenstein in the musical Young Frankenstein! I'm so excited I can't wait to see it! This is a pic of my son in his element!

That is to bad he didn't win first place but what she said was a great compliment. Second place is wonderful and the $25 is awesome too!

I'm glad his teacher was able to take your son. I remember you saying he may not even get there - and congratulations to him too. He obviously did very well.

Yes I was really glad too, and he is happy with his placement. Perhaps next year he'll go to the next round!

I hope that he didn't feel bad about it. $25 is still a good amount of money. Sometimes I hate competition like this that don't actually recognise the real winner. He is a very talented boy and he seem to be a very well disciplined one. He is bound to succeed someday.
