The inequality of wealth

Most of us are aware that there is a disparity between the rich and the poor. In some countries it is more blatant, but even in countries like Australia, USA and UK it is there. Australia is one of the richest countries in the world, yet a report on the news tonight revealed that there are 116,000 people who are homeless in this country. For a nation with a total population of only around 24 million, that's quite a sizeable amount.
On a world level, a recent report by Oxfam revealed that the richest 1% of people in the world own more wealth between them than the rest of the world's population. That's staggering. I can't imagine anyone thinking that this is a good position for the world to be in, but what do you think? Is it just something we have to live with, or can we do something about it? And if so, what?

If I had billions of dollars, I'd use much of that money to help others, whether it would be helping the homeless, helping those with illnesses like cancer who can't afford treatment, or helping those traumatized by natural disasters.
It's sort of weird to me that, as an American, if I walk around Portland, Maine, for example, I see a lot of homeless people on the streets, even though America is the richest nation in the world.

And in many cases, Lynn, millionaires who give to charities do so because they get tax breaks (or at least that's often the way it is in America), not because they care.

I absolutely agree. I especially don't understand people hoarding more money than they will ever be able to use in their lifetime. I know that many millionaires do give huge sums to charity, but when you compare it to their overall wealth it is really not that much.
Over the years I have done a lot of fundraising for different charities, usually sitting in a shopping centre selling tickets or just collecting donations. One thing I have found is that often the people who give the most are the ones who look like they have the least to give, and the ones who walk by and ignore you are often those who look like they could well afford to throw in a couple of bucks.

Life seems to be unfair. Some people just tend to think that they can own everything and forget that there are millions who cannot amass enough money to feed themselves. It just sad to think that people can easily monopolize everything including the resources that are originally created for all. I would like to believe that things are not complicated but people are just greedy and selfish wanting more for themselves.

@lynnief Thats the truth. Many factors to consider but those who have so much tend to want more as if they are entitled to everything. I believe so too, which is just way too unfair.

I think really it's the rich that should be doing something about the inequality but of course they're pretty comfortable with the status quo.

I advocate for the impoverished and homeless in my country, Canada. I belong to a group of activists who are advocating for a total transformation of the social situation in the country. Progress may seem slow, but it is being made.
I know that the canadian government spends more money to keep people living in homeless shelters than it would spend if it gave every one of those homeless people a livable, sustainable monthly allowance. Its insane. I think Jesus said it best when He said;
"We live in an economic environment that strives to keep the poor impoverished, then punishes them for their poverty."

@lynnief It is from the Sananda Website where messages from Jesus are channeled as well as from the Archangels, St Germaine and many, many others who offer their assistance to aid humanity in its ascension process. :-)
