Another rat has returned...

Another rat has returned. This time I actually saw the varmint myself! I noticed my hot-dog buns were eaten through, cookies, boxes of cereal, etc. Plus... There was rat poop everywhere! When I started moving things away to clean up the mess...there he was in the corner. My landlord was there trying to figure out where he was getting in, but when I went to get him...the rat disappeared. Not again... The landlord said that this is the only property he has had any rat problems... He has several dwellings that he is renting on the same street, and none of them have had a rat problem, but ours. Lucky me... He did manage to find where the rat crawled up the air conditioner vent, and ate through a wall in the bottom of the sink; plus ate through the air conditioning filter. These men are not clean. They cook. Drop food on the floor and just leave it there. The toilets are nasty. They don't flush. No matter how much I politely ask them to clean up after themselves, they won't do anything about it. Only one of the guys who is from Africa, is pretty clean. He is a nice guy. But he is getting his bachelor's, then going for his masters; so he just studies, and does not help clean either. I'm so discouraged... Sigh...

I don't use anything. I let my cat and kittens hunt rats in the house.

@mydanods I totally agree with you. I don't need to use a mouse or rat trap.

Sprinkling eucalyptus essential oil in the area deters them! Sprinkling cayenne or chilli powder also works! Other than that block up access holes and keep all food in plastic boxes or tins! And obviously tell those lazy guys to clean up!!!

@teresatrotter Best thing to use to block the holes is steel wool with plaster or whatever to seal it in! They can't chew through it

I am so sorry about this problem. Why not to "hire" a cat to get rid of the mice?

@teresatrotter What a shame, a cat will get rid of all problems.

Landlord does not allow pets, because it is a boarding house with very little room for anything.

This house had mice when I first moved in. I bought a device that you plug in to a power point, it works through electromagnetic currents and also low range sound waves. I used it for 3 nights and no more mice. Happy camper!

@teresatrotter I think some of them are more effective than others.
