Overplayed Classic Rock Songs I'm Not Sick of (Yet): Walk of Life (#1)

I think I'm recovered from the trip to Nashville. This middle age thing isn't working on these overnight jaunts anymore. But I'm rested up now, thanks to a cold and dreary day made for napping, and ready to give you my favorite overplayed song that I've yet to get sick of. Here's the topper on the list. #1: Walk of Life - Dire Straits Poor John is having a fit. "What, no Eagles??" Nope. This gem tops the list of songs I have heard a thousand times and can hear another thousand or so. At least. My mom loved this song. How's that for an old codger? (The 86th anniversary of her birth is next week, so she was in her 50s when this song came out.) And, of course, I did too. I still do. The classic Dire Straits song about a street musician (well, in this case, a subway musician ["down in the tunnel, tryin' to make it pay"]) playing everything from Gene Vincent to Ray Charles ("'Be Bop a Lula,' baby, 'What'd I Say,' here comes Johnny singing 'I Got a Woman'" [also a Ray Charles song]) for the nickels and dimes people would throw in his guitar case is a true highlight from their mega album Brothers in Arms. It doesn't hurt that I love Mark Knopfler's melodic guitar playing, either. Oh yeah, that boy can play, too. Thanks for reading. Walk of Life Written by Mark Knopfler Recorded by Dire Straits From Brothers in Arms, 1985 After all the violence and double-talk:
Dire Straits performing live during the 'Brothers in arms'-tour at the Wembley Arena in London, United Kingdom on July 10th 1985. Now in HD (or as good as it...

The Eagles feel so neglected as do EJ. Apparently you have not checked into the Hotel California enough times.

I have one Eagles album on my iPod in its entirety. How’s that for neglecting them?

This tune probably replaced the overplayed "Sultans of Swing" from their first album, lol. The Dire's "Brother In Arms" album had so many great songs. Also, liked "So Far Away." The keyboards on Walk of Life really added to this tune.

This is actually one that I am tired of, because I got tired of playing it all the time on the radio myself. Give me "Skateaway" anytime!

This one always makes me want to dance. It's got a little bit of a zydeco feel.

My youngest daughter loved Dire Straits and would play the one cassette she had over and over again. She was upset when it snagged in the player and had to toss it out. Got her another to replace it and she was delighted.

Often saw shoppers dancing while pushing the trolleys in supermarkets when this song was on. I love its tune.
