Jimmy Buffett's musical Escape to Margaritaville is not doing well on Broadway

Jimmy Buffett's musical opened not even a month ago and was roundly trashed by the critics. Ticket sales slowed after those reviews and now it looks like the future of the show isn't so good. There are enough future tickets booked to keep the show going through the summer but I think that is about it. The producers have already taken out an emergency loan to keep the show running for now. My husband and I looked at getting tickets for my birthday and they are expensive! They were like $140 a piece for the upper level. Lower level was closer to $300 each which I would never pay and I am a HUGE Buffett fan. I will keep an eye on ticket prices. Maybe they will lower them a bit now that they are struggling to fill the seats.

He's not that well known here in the UK but I remember seeing him in the movie 'FM' from the late 70s. Is the musical autobiographical?

Some of his songs are based on events in his life. The show has many of his most popular hits in it.

My sister won tickets to a Buffet concert. She will be going later this summer. He used to play Merriweather Post Pavillion near Baltimore alot which is basically an outside venue..and the crowds were all crazy..spraying liquor bottles etc. I hope poor sis doesn't have a heart attack..She is the conservative type, although I am sure alot of that stuff is outlawed now in concert areas.

Sorry, I wouldn't pay $300 to see someone else sing Jimmy Buffett songs that aren't among my favorites. (I'm more of a "The Captain and the Kid"/"He Went to Paris" type person...in fact, I wish he'd do a solo club tour where he'd just do those songs.)

He occasionally does small club shows (acoustic) as Freddie and the Fish Sticks.

@NJChicaa -- that was the pseudonym he used to release Steve Goodman's song "Elvis Imitators."

Broadway show prices are just insane. You are better off spending that money for a Buffet concert, in fact, those show tickets would probably pay for several Buffet concerts.

Agreed. I've been to so many Buffett concerts. Haven't been in a few years, though, as they all become the same after awhile.
