My Sister Has Been Taking Good Care of Me

Every weekday for the last three weeks, my sister has been coming over and helping me while my boyfriend is at work. I spend a lot of time sleeping or just reading in bed, but she is there to help me if I need it when I need to use the restroom (staying nearby in case I fall, which has almost happened a time or two,) and making sure I eat, as I have a hard time doing anything with my hands since I have to hobble around on crutches. I'm getting to the point where I could probably manage to heat something up in the microwave on my own, but with my balance issues (I had them even before I fell and broke my ankle,) it's better to not risk it. The last thing I need is to topple over in the kitchen and whack my head on the floor or counter when no one's around to help me! My cat, the very anti-social Mr. Lister, is getting used to having her around. He doesn't run away immediately when she walks into a room, and he even permits her to pet him a bit. He does have his limits -- he won't tolerate her getting up in his face or trying to pick him up -- but ear scratches, apparently, are suitable. I'm grateful my sister has been pitching in and helping me out so much over the last few weeks -- I really don't know what I'd have done without her. The rest of the time my boyfriend has been taking care of me, but I only call on him if I absolutely need help. I like being able to do things myself. Only three more weeks to go before this cast gets cut off.

I am glad your sister is helping, I wonder how people who have no help can do when they have serious health problems.

I get up and do for myself anyways or just lay and do nothing at all.

@andriaperry When I was unable to move my right arm, I did my best using my left arm. I had a problem when I badly hurt my knee. Going up and down the stairs "jumping" on one leg was not easy.

It is a pleasure to have a caring sister like yours. I think most of the siblings are taking care of each other. It is their duty too. Get well soon.

@Srbageldog It will probably take a bit to really walk right. Hope that all goes good with it.

It's good you have your sister to help. My siblings are all busy. I know my one sister would try to help when she could but she works and has a life. I am best to not break anything because I wouldn't have much help when the husband is at work and my son is at school. The boy can be amazingly helpful when he is home if I'm sore or not feeling well but I still have to do some things for him. I'm about to teach him how to make some of his own food so if I am having trouble getting around he can get it on his own. When I hurt my foot I was on my own while everyone worked. It bites not having help and being on crutches, I'm glad you don't have to go through that.

@Srbageldog This is why I'm happy I did it when I was younger and in better shape, not that I'm super old now but from various injuries, over the years my body hates me, when I did it before I was still pretty young and hadn't managed to ruin my knees and things yet. I really hope I don't injure myself now or I'd be up a creek because no one would be able to help me.

I tried to do more for myself last night and hurt myself in the process. I'm sorry you didn't have anyone to help, I'd have probably broken my neck by now if I had to do everything on my own.

@sissy15 I hope you don't injure yourself either. I wish I had done this when I was younger, thinner, and in overall better shape. It is so damn hard lugging my fat butt up the stairs.

That is why I like having a sister. She is younger than me but she also took care of me when I was in the hospital for a surgery. She took care if me when the husband is at work. I am grateful. And you are lucky because you got a caring sister and a supportive boyfriend.

You are fortunate enough to have your sister around when you are desperately in need of help.Happily it won't be too long before you are able to do things yourself.

That is good you have help, I have a sister but she would not help me, she would explain to me that she is to sick to help me and that I should help her no matter if I can walk or not. I am glad you are getting better.
