Favorite "Color" Bands #6 - Black Flag

"We've got nothing better to do," than get to #6 in my countdown of my favorite bands with a color in their name, the third of four "black" bands: Black Flag.
Formed by guitarist Greg Ginn in Hermosa Beach, California, in 1976, Black Flag was one of America's greatest punk bands, a leader in the hardcore punk movement of the 1980's.
With Ginn being the group's only constant member, over the years Black Flag was home to numerous punk legends, including Keith Morris, Henry Rollins, Dex Cadena, Kira Roessler, Bill Stevenson, and Chuck Biscuits. All in all, the band had 16 different lineups with 17 different musicians.
Most notably, Morris went on to form Circle Jerks, Rollins fronted the Rollins Band and found success as both a spoken word performer and host of a cable television show, and Stevenson is best known for his own legendary band, The Descendants. Roessler, meanwhile, is an Emmy Award winning dialogue editor.
Their 1981 full length debut, Damaged, is a punk classic, and widely considered one of the genre's most influential albums.
If all of that isn't enough, I once saw a photo of John Goodman wearing a Black Flag sweatshirt. If Black Flag is good enough for the actor who played Dan Conner, they are certainly good enough for me.

You've already heard my Henry Rollins story, so I won't repeat it here.
I first heard this song at a Mormon youth dance in the 80s, when a couple of teens brought the Repo Man soundtrack over to the DJ and said "Play track 2!" The song began, and everyone on the floor just stopped dancing and stared in shock as the two kids started slam dancing.
It was the best thing ever.

Yes! That would have been awesome! We were at a battle of the air bands one night at a 3.2 bar in the 80's. Everyone was talking it really serious. These punk guys from our high school had the DJ play some hair metal song and just started slamming into each other as they "played." Needless to say, they won. It ruled.

I've always associated Black Flag with Henry Rollins.

So not surprised that they're in the countdown. I would have been surprised if they hadn't been.

Me too. I hope that he wasn't just wearing the shirt just because it was chilly.
