The song was written by Burt Bacharach and Carol Bayer Sager. It was first recorded by Rod Stewart for the soundtrack of the movie “Night Shift” in 1982. However, it is best remembered for the cover version sung by Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder. It was released as a charity single for AIDS research and prevention. It was a number one hit in 1986. Sales of this song got more than $3 million for the cause. The best song of this year was “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (That Loves Me)” by Whitney Houston. It was the first single from her second studio album Whitney. The original arrangement was written for her grandnephew who at the age of nine was a well-renowned dancer.
