Gym Membership

So a couple of days ago, I'm proud to say - I rejoined a gym. I had toured the newly remodeled the YMCA - which is a lovely facility with a rock climbing wall, 2 pools... however my health insurance didn't pay towards it, and money is tight, so... I checked what my health insurance would pay for - and found 1 other gym in the area that I was interested in. It's interesting because it's been a "Gold's" a "Fitness Evolution" and now it's a "Sta-Fit". I was a member at the previous 2. I let my membership go when I moved to a different town, but it's in the town where my parents live and I'm there fairly often, so... we'll see how it works out. I've been once to use it already. So they've upgraded the cardio equipment and offer some classes, which times don't really work for me, but the main thing I'm excited about is the pool. Unfortunately they've let it go a bit. The pool itself could use a painting and the walls too. The couple of really fit look dudes working the front desk were really nice to me, bonus! lol. No. I am sure it is part of their job to be nice and friendly to everyone, even out of shape people like me. (Wait! I'm in shape... round is a shape....) However now I have access to 2 other gyms which the "Sta Fit" chain owns in the area. Win win! Do you go to a gym? What things do you like to do? Photo: Pixabay

Hey, I have that shape as well, round, so it must be one lol. I think this gym was meant to be for you since it was two others that you were a part of and is placed in the areas you can use it in. 3rd time is a charm so this is it for you. I am thinking of joining a gym once my husband gets another job, we have one just down the road from us and this round needs to go.

@FayeHazel I am hoping too, my husband keeps saying we are going to start walking but if I wait for him I will be more than round.

@cintol Lol! Tell him you're going for a walk and then invite him to come with :-) Oh - start small too, my mistake at first with walking was going these great distances and then realizing I had to come back

Nice to meet a fellow "round" lol. Sometimes gyms will give an extra good deal to couples or families ... or sometimes people's work is nice enough to pay part toward it. I hope you can join soon

I'm glad you're part of a gym. Time to change that shape to a pear, maybe. Yes, I go to the gym everyday. The YWCA. I also started using the fitness center on Monday besides the usual pool workout.

@FayeHazel It's going very well. I'm down 32 and hoping for more with the addition of the fitness center this past week. I hope you can get your shape changed. Get a good exercise routine going, as well as a healthy diet, and you should start seeing some success in that area.

I don“t go to a gym as such but I like to keep a good tone by walking and stretching as much as I can. Really nice if you have found somewhere that you will like going to. Have fun.

I have a gym membership to PF but.. hardly go. Hard to get motivated, and hate both sweating and exercise in general. Though, did go a few times last month, for the first time in about a year. And usually do the treadmill, bike, and leg press. Glad you have a membership to a gym by you, and hope you use it up.

@Courtlynn True, this one, Sta-Fit , has the tanning -- used it once or twice.... I found it to feel good, but not be worth the time, effort, and risk of skin damage

I've heard planet fitness are nice locations. I hear you though. Getting motivated is the worst part. I bribe myself with being able to listen to my headphones and/or use the hot tub :-)

It is really good that they have a pool. And it seems that it is a bigger pool, how long is it?

Ah that picture is one I found online, I would say the pool at the place I go is about half that size.

@FayeHazel There are some gyms here, too that have a pool, but there are usually smaller pool. I think gyms use the place for the exercise machines.

@anikoonline True - the exercise machines do seem to be the big draw. I rarely see people using the free weights section, at least here.

The pools are nice, Faye. There is a pool in the gym too? Awesome. I used to go to the gym but now I go swimming or playing tennis if I have the time and when I am not lazy. Hihi Are the guys freaking hot?

Oh yes, nice pool at the gym - not as big as that one though. Swimming and playing tennis are excellent. :-) Nothing wrong with being lazy And yes - so many hot guys! Some even nice to me. That is funny

@mlgen1037 Oh that is interesting... here quite a gyms will offer a pool as well. Frequently they will offer fitness classes in water - particularly good if you want to not stress your joints. There's one class at my current gym with you stand on a board in the water. I hope you find a gym you like. Hot guys are always a nice thing. And good motivation. :-)

Many people really do enjoy going to a gym. We do have several great ones here. As a group of vegans and vegetarians still jogging with our dogs and riding bikes, etc...no gym needed. That is as good a list of excuses as I can come up with on the spot.

Thanks! True -- it could be a touch cleaner in the pool area, but the pool itself looks good. It's funny because some number of years ago that pool got way out of control - the water turned lime green

@JudyEv It was so weird how it went, too... the first day it was clear, but cloudy (I still swam). The second day it was only a bit green (I didn't swim, other people were swimming though), the day after that it was cloudy lime green, not fun,... and it was closed. I wonder if people would have still swam ...

I always thought that gyms were rather expensive and seem to be hard to leave when you are on a pay monthly pay - leastways, over here. Luckily, I have my bike!

Ah you helped me change my perspective... I am fortunate that my health insurance pays for my gym membership. Some people get a great number of places to choose from - mine covers only a handful -- but I guess much better than pay for my own. I admire your cycling
