How do you feel about profanity (swear words) in books and movies?
Personally I don't like profanity at any time. I will tolerate it in books and movies if it is part of the character and there isn't too much of it, but if it is used indiscriminately I will close the book or turn the movie off.
How about you? Does profanity bother you? What would make you stop reading or watching?

I don't mind it too much in books because I can skim over the parts but I really hate it in movies and in TV series.

I literally do not care. Don't read the book or watch the movie if you are sensitive. But that is just silly because then you can no longer enjoy many forms of media. They are just words. What would happen if Potato was a curse word? Or skateboard! Ohh how vulgar that skateboard of a guy! See how silly that is? They are just words to enhance a sentence. Censorship is honestly so stupid. Now when it comes to slurs, like racial or homophobic slurs, those can go away, because those are very harmful and we have been fighting for years to stop these words. But curse words, who cares? They are starting to say more and more curse words on TV and I love it. Because they are literally just a jumbled bunch of letters that have no meaning unless you give it one.

I disagree. If words don't have meaning, then language in the truest sense ceases to exist.

@lynnief Then you are going to hate television in the next few years, because they are starting to actually use the F-bomb a lot more. And I am all for it. Because it is just a word. there are always better words to use than curse words, but sometimes a really good "eff you" is just as well placed.

@DesirousDreamer I watch very little TV now, so it probably won't make much difference to me.

I don't like too much in movies and I pretty much hate it in comedians. If they can't be funny without resorting to profanity, then they're not really comedians. In books I skip over it or find something else.
