One original, one cover. It's that simple. We are on #49a, the original, in my Play it Again, Sam music series: "Wild Horses" by The Rolling Stones.
I really don't need to write an introduction to The Rolling Stones, do I? As one of the most successful, most revered rock bands in history, I don't think so.
Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (with help from Gram Parsons, who was not credited, but actually released his version first,) "Wild Horses" is a country rock classic from the Stones' 1971 album, Sticky Fingers.
According to Jagger, many people believe that the song was written for Marianne Faithful, but he claims that is not true. Richards has stated that it is actually about being out on the road instead of being where you would rather be.
"Wild Horses" performed well enough, reaching #28 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #11 in Canada. Jagger's former wife, Jerry Hall, has declared it her favorite Rolling Stones song, which says something considering that she's probably heard them all.

Do you play it as part of the album, or on it's own?
