It probably comes as no surprise that I spend a lot of time thinking about music. Recently, while I was in the hospital, it occurred to me that I happen to like a lot of bands with "of" in their name, so I am counting down my favorites. We are at #5: Gang of Four. Gang of Four are a post punk/ dance rock band that formed in Leeds, England, in 1977. They are known for politically oriented songs such as "I Love a Man In a Uniform," "At Home He's a Tourist," and "Damaged Goods." Highly influential, Gang of Four's debut, Entertainment!, is widely considered one of the greatest punk albums of all time. Bands such as R.E.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nirvana have cited them as a major influence (in his journal, Kurt Cobain listed Entertainment! as his 13th favorite album.) (Not So Fun Fact: I was THIS close to seeing Gang of Four. I had tickets to see them as part of a lineup that included The Sisters of Mercy, Public Enemy, and Anthrax, at Red Rocks. Instead, the tour was cancelled before it reached Denver. It would have been the greatest show of my concert going career. Too bad, because I love this band.) ("The best politically motivated band in rock and roll" info verified by Wikipedia)

Their singles never really charted very high. They did do a couple Peel Sessions, though.

@teamfreak16 I wonder if that is where I came across them. John Peel and I did some night shifts!

They really aren't very well known outside of alternative music fans. I'm glad you liked it.

I never really got into them but I liked what Sara Lee did later with the rather different B52s.

What a great shame the concert was cancelled. That would have been epic.

I'm still bummed. The Sisters of Mercy are the only band of the four that I've managed to see since then.
