I use a Brita water pitcher with filter. It makes Dallas' tap water good enough to drink.

I am not saying Dallas water is not fit to drink but actually I don't enjoy the smell or the taste of chloride or flouride, or whatever that stuff is they put in it. If I want flouride, I brush my teeth with toothpaste that contains it. But when I use the pitcher to filter out my tap water, I am happy with the results. The idea is, using a filtering pitcher like the Brita pitcher, you save money by not buying several dozens of caseloads of bottled drinking water, which is basically water that was pre-filtered and then put in plastic bottles, and those bottles get into the landfills and even out there, in the ocean waters. So, to do that, it costs pennies a day to use the Brita filter. I mean, it does a great job of making tap water actually taste good to drink, and cold when the pitcher is stored in the refrigerator. To get one just go to a local Target and you will get a pitcher and one filter. All you need to do is remember to drink it regularly.

The pitcher I got was only about 15 bucks and the filter came with it. I bought a new filter for just around 6 bucks and it lasts me for my use about 5 months or longer before having to get a new filter. It is cheaper in the long run than buying case after case of bottled water every week.

@Courtlynn , Another solution is to buy a filter for your kitchen sink's faucet. The one I recommend is as follows.

@lookatdesktop never seen any that cheap. but we also only get water when its on sale. guess it really depends on how often people drink water as to which is better

I use one and have a filter for the kettle as well. Good job, too, with all the tea I drink!

That is good that you enjoy tea. I have to remember to buy a case of green tea next time I am out and about.

@Ronrybs , No doubt, your cat possesses keen senses of smell as well as taste.Tap water is also not good for gold fish. Of course that is known fact by most who have an aquarium at their home.

@lookatdesktop I have several different green teas, I do like them in the evening. I meant to mention, my other water filter I mainly use for the cat. she is not keen on water straight from the tap

I would love to get one that would actually not make me refill it a 100 times a day, so far haven't found one that we can afford that is big. My daughter bought one that goes on the facet for us but it didn't fit.

@lookatdesktop Hubby wont change the facet as it was so pricey. Yes I have read all about the BPA's and my water is in the pantry with no windows, just gets expensive.

I imagine the fit is not entirely universal. If you can get the faucet replaced and retrofit it to match the threading an diameter of the faucet end, then you will be able to work things out. Meantime, bottled filtered water is a good thing to get to supply yourself with drinking water and store it so it is not in direct sunlight. The reason being, the plastic has certain amounts of BPAs that can leach into the water from the ultraviolet sunlight. In a rather dark room the water will not get that substance in the water from the plastic bottles. More on this topic below.
Heard about BPA but not sure what it is? See what products it's in and explore possible alternatives if you're concerned about safety.

I use a Brita for my tea kettle but if I want just a drink of water, I'll get it from the tap.

I do it when I am in a hurry but when I have a few minutes I will bother to get out the cold filtered water from the Brita pitcher and enjoy a nice cold glass. Ontario water has to be better than Dallas water, just saying.

I used a Brita for years until we got a new fridge that had a water dispenser in it. The pitcher didn't fit on the shelves and we didn't need it any longer. So now it collects dust in a closet.

Most ice makers in refrigerators come with a water filter to prevent a buildup of minerals that can create problems with the ice making process. I might just buy an ice maker for us, as our refrigerator didn't come with an ice maker. The filter in most new types of refrigerators filter water before dispensing it from the door. We had one of those until it broke down and it costs about 1800 bucks for a new one so we instead got a cheap freezer on top type for under 500 and it is okay. We have regular ice in trays now.
