Have you ever ridden a ferry?

This past weekend hubby and I took a little trip to Vermont. It was supposed to be to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary coming up in a few weeks. It was a very nice trip. We had some lovely views of snow capped mountains. The scenery was breath taking. We didn't do a lot, but that wasn't the point.. We did go to the Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory and take a tour, that was fun. On our way back to NY we took a ferry boat across Lake Champlain. We drove our car right onto the boat and the boat took us across the lake from Vermont to NY. It was very exciting. I'd been on a ferry when I was a kid and my family took me to Vermont, but hadn't gone since. We'd like to try to take the kids up at some point, I think they'd enjoy it.

@katsmeow1213 I crossed from the Irish Republic to Northern Ireland on a car ferry recently which was little more than a big tin plate with an engine at the back.

@JudyEv Greencastle to Magilligan - there was an accident blocking the road out by Moville. Cut quite a chunk off our journey too.

@xFiacre So was it like a detour but on a ferry? Not a regular occurrence? Sorry but I'm intrigued.

Do you mind me asking where you went from and to? Why wouldn't you just drive?

@katsmeow1213 I was thrilled when we got to go on a train, that was fun. I have been looking up new things to do around here since I'm getting better.

I love new experiences, so I definitely wanted to take the ferry back. I looked to try to take it on the way up, but it said it was closed. There are multiple crossings and a few of them were closed, but we drove past this one and it said open, so we made sure to do it on the way back.

Happy early anniversary! Sounds like a neat anniversary getaway - I'll bet it was so pretty there! I've never taken a ferry - driving a car into a boat to get somewhere, that is.

It was lovely up there, so many mountains. For most of our drive we were just totally surrounded because we had NY mountains on our left and Vermont mountains on our right! On the way back we were told about a great mountain to climb on the Vermont side with amazing views. I want to go back and try it, but that's like a 6 hour car ride.. so would need to be an overnight.

@katsmeow1213 Well you guys will have to go back for that climb . . . a long ride but most likely worth every bit of the drive to see those amazing views! There's a comfort being surrounded by so many beautful mountains - my kinda trip!!

We've taken many ferries on our travels, and quite a few with our car.

We've been on a few ferries including the massive one that goes from Ireland to France. In a month or so we'll be going to Tasmania on a ferry.

That sounds awesome! This one was tiny, not even like what you see on TV, but it was something new and fun none the less.

@katsmeow1213 We've been on a tiny one in Ireland. It only took a small number of vehicles. You wonder how such a small 'raft' can stay afloat when it's loaded with vehicles.

Your weekend sounded wonderful. Getting away like that is nice so I can understand why you didn't feel the need to do a lot. Getting away together is special in itself! I have never been on a ferry but you make it seem exciting.
